About the work
This discovery commission explored opportunities for more sustainable, community focused and preventative rural healthcare in Ceredigion Penfro and beyond. It started with understanding the problem, learning from existing evidence and considering how partners could build momentum for change.
The approach
The work used two rapid research sprints, each lasting around two to three weeks. The first reviewed evidence and activity around rural healthcare; the second examined why some challenges persisted, using the 2014 Mid Wales Health Care Study as a historical reference point.
What the work produced
The project identified four interacting constraints: trust and relationships, knowledge and evidence, resource and transition capacity, and leadership and ownership, that may be holding back change at scale in rural healthcare. It translated these into questions to support further exploration and different approaches to innovation.
